How to safely operate a forklift(Part 1)
2025-06-27
ⅠCHECK
1. Appearance inspection. Before starting work, forklift operators must circle around the forklift and carefully inspect the body, protective windows, and guard plates for damage, as well as whether the seat belts are functioning properly. They must also check for any oil or water leaks under the vehicle and assess the degree of tire wear.
2. Instrument and engine inspection. Pull on the parking brake (handbrake), shift the driving gear to neutral, turn on the key switch, and observe if the instrument panel displays normally. Start the engine and listen to its sound to determine if there are any abnormalities, in order to ensure a smooth start.
3. Check the lights and speakers. Turn on the light control switch and check whether the front headlights, side lights, and tail lights are lit up normally in sequence; Operate the turn signal switch and check if the turn signal flashes normally; Step on the brake pedal and confirm that the brake light is on; Press the horn button and check if the horn can produce sound normally.
4. Brake system inspection. Drive the forklift slowly, step on the brake pedal, and check if the service brake is effective and if there is any deviation; Drive the car to a slope, apply the parking brake (handbrake), and test whether it can park effectively.
5. Hydraulic system inspection: Focus on checking whether there is oil leakage or seepage at the lifting cylinder, tilting cylinder, hydraulic oil pipe joints, and hydraulic oil pipes to avoid hydraulic system failures affecting operations.
ⅡOPERATE
1. Start safely. Before starting, it is necessary to confirm the safety of the surrounding area, especially when loading goods. The line of sight is easily obstructed, so it is even more important to observe carefully and confirm that there are no people or obstacles before driving. Facial recognition must be completed before starting (to prevent unlicensed overtime), and seat belts must be fastened before driving.
2. Driving taboos. It is strictly prohibited to start or brake abruptly, otherwise the vehicle may lose control and the goods may collapse. Strictly control the speed, with a general speed limit of 10km/h within the factory area, 5km/h when entering the company, workshop, warehouse, and corners, and 3km/h at workshops, pedestrian crossings, intersections, or corners. It is recommended to install forklift overspeed alarm speed limiters.
3. Turning and driving on slopes. When turning, it is necessary to reduce the speed, as high-speed turns can easily cause the vehicle to tip over or cargo to collapse; The car is turning from the rear wheel, and when turning, make a significant outward turn from the right rear to ensure there is enough space for the turn. When the vehicle is carrying goods, it travels forward when going uphill and backward when going downhill to ensure driving safety
4. Personnel transportation regulations. The vehicle is a specialized vehicle for cargo handling, and except for the driver, there is no place to carry others. It is strictly prohibited to carry personnel while driving.
5. Visual obstruction handling. After loading large cargo, if the driver's line of sight is poor or obstructed, they should drive backwards or arrange for a dedicated person to command low-speed driving. Comply with traffic zoning and must pause when crossing passages: pause before entering or exiting corners, warehouses, or work areas, honk if necessary, and proceed cautiously.
6. Driving focus requirements. Concentrate while driving and confirm the direction of travel and road conditions while driving; When driving in close proximity to personnel and cargo storage areas, slow down to ensure safety. When working with vehicles at night, the work site must be well lit and the vehicle lights must be complete to ensure a clear view of the work.
